Usually I leave music write-ups in this fine rag to audiofile people the likes of Angela Jossy, Matt Driscoll and babblin’ Bobble Tiki, but this week, I’m going to toss in a few notes of my own.

There’s a show coming to town next week that you absolutely MUST see: Billy Joe and The Dusty 45s!

They’ll be rockin’ this town at Jazzbones on March 21, and I can guarantee that this hot Friday night ticket will be the Scene of the Crime.

I know and adore their lead singer, Billy Joe Huels, and I ooze whenever I hear their rockabilly, roots and swing music.

Billie Joe also recently starred as Buddy in Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theater production of Buddy Holly. He’s so perfect for that role, which you’ll instantly recognize the second you lay eyes on him.

In addition to the lovely Billy Joe, you’ll also find Jerry Battista on lead guitar and vocals; Kelly Van Camp on drums, harmonica and vocals; and Guy Quintino on upright bass.

I’ve followed the Dusty 45s for years, since back when I was in college and Mark Pickerel was the drummer and they did shows in Ellensburg.

I’ve also supported Billy Joe with one of his offshoot bands, the Vinyl Avengers. That band actually helped me start to heal after I lost my mother several years ago, which should give some insight as to why his amazing vocals are so personal and important to me.

What you’ll love about this Dusty 45s show is how hoppin’ and light-hearted it is. There’s no way that you’ll be able to sit still, and I’m sure the dance floor at Jazzbones will be packed.

It’ll bring out the pinup girl in all of us gals and the shack shaker in all of you dudes.

The Dusty 45s will be releasing a new album this May, and the March 21 show will be an excellent opportunity for you to sample some of their new, great tracks.

Your eardrums will also tingle with excellent cover songs like Buddy Holly’s “Maybe Baby,” Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues,” Dick Dale’s “Miserlou” and Don Gibson’s “Lonesome Me.”

The band has appeared with acts such as LeAnn Rimes, comedians Margaret Cho and Wayne Brady, Dick Dale, The Ventures, and most recently Lemmy of Motorhead and Slim Jim Phantom of the Stray Cats.

We’re lucky that they’re coming to our city!

Most of the Dusty 45s’ performances end with Billy Joe’s trumpet on fire, and I can only hope that they’ll rock this in Tacoma.

Buy your tickets now, because I can guarantee that the house will be filled and Jazzbones is where you’ll find me on March 21 with my shoulders shaking and a full, white-toothed grin.

I LOVE the Dusty 45s!
