So what if the Weekly Volcano can’t go screaming around the streets of its neighborhood on Halloween night anymore, begging for candy, wrapped in a sheet that’s not fit to be strapped to a bed? The Weekly Volcano — or at least those of us who can no longer squeeze into those plastic CVS costumes — can have fun this Halloween season without egging the principal’s house or overdosing on snack-size candy — although both are possible, if you must. Here’s a big, scary list of things for you to do.

Picha’s Pumpkin Patch Puyallup. A variety of pumpkins, gourdes and cornstalks, 5 acre corn maze and a pumpkin sling shot, through Oct. 22 Thurs-Fri 3-6 pm, Sat-Sun 9 am till dusk, fee depends on activities chosen (Picha’s Farms, 52nd St. East and 66th Avenue East, 253.841.4443).


Tricks ‘N Treats Funfest Federal Way. Unlimited Halloween fun, play Halloween carnival games, ride the inflatable slide, enter into a number of costume contests, create some crafts and enjoy the outdoor s’mores, there will be plenty of prizes, candy and fun, don’t forget to wear your costume, ages 2 to 12, Oct. 23 6-8:30 pm, $8 (Federal Way Community Center, 876 S. 333rd St., 253.835.6900).


Family Night Howlers Night Tacoma. Kids of all ages will enjoy this safe Halloween fun with candy, games and prizes, get a free pumpkin, decorate it and take pictures, Oct 23 5-8 pm, free (Portland Avenue Neighborhood Resource Center, 3513 E. PortlandAve., 253.591.5391, metroparkstacoma.org).


Creatures of the Night Tacoma. An event just for preschoolers and their accompanying adults, learn all about creatures of the night as you experience a short twilight hike, activities, crafts and a special snack and visit with nocturnal creatures from the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium's collection, Oct. 23 5-7 pm, $5 one child and up to two adults, $2 each additional child, ages 3-6, reservations requested (Tacoma Nature Center, 1919 S. Monster Mash Bash South Tacoma. A Halloween party for kids, where articipants can enjoy the trick-or-treat street, Halloween crafts and a variety of games, Oct. 23 6-8 pm, $3, ages 12 and under (South Park Community Center, 4851 S. Tacoma Way, 253.591.5299, metroparkstacoma.org).


The Haunted Theatre...Backstage Tour & Eerie Dances Tacoma.  Tacoma City Ballet transforms their space into a haunted theater inhabited by spooky characters for a night of fun, child friendly entertainment, including eerie dances, Halloween attire welcome, Oct. 23-24 and Oct. 30 5:30 pm and 7 pm, Oct 31 2:30 pm, 4 pm, and 5:30 pm (Tacoma City Ballet, 508 6th Ave., 253.272.4219).


Bonfires, Beaver Pelts and Bogeymen Ruston. Celebrate Halloween in the style of past centuries with ghost stories told around a bonfire, the evening begins with tales appropriate for all ages, and get increasingly scarier after a break for complimentary cookies and cider, Oct. 23-24 7 pm, $4, $2 children 12 and under (Fort Nisqually Living History Museum, 5400 N. Hoot and Howl Eatonville. Kids Halloween Spooktacular Tacoma. Bring the whole family to celebrate Halloween with fun games, spooky music, scary crafts and tasty treats, make sure to wear your costume, Oct. 24 2 pm (Borders Books and Music, 2508 S. 38th St., 253.473.9111).


Art Door Auction & Speakeasy Halloween Bash Downtown Tacoma. Get a sneak peek at Speakeasy Arts Cooperative prior to its grand opening, participate in a live auction for an Authentic Tacoma Art Door, then dance the night away to Djs, auction benefits Tacoma Art Place, all ages, bar for 21 years plus, Oct. 24 8 pm-1 am, free (Speakeasy Arts Cooperative, 746 Broadway St., 253.426.5704).


Great Pumpkin Express Mineral. Reaper Ride Costume Bicycle Cruz Tacoma. Who goes Bump in the Night Tacoma. Fun for the whole family as you experience a guided twilight or night hike, activities and crafts, visit with nocturnal critters from the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium’s collection and learn all about creatures of the night, Oct. 24 5-8 pm, recommended for ages 5 and up, $2.50, reservations requested (Tacoma Nature Center, 1919 S. Halloween Neighborhood Walking Tours Olympia. Led by Drew Crooks, historian, and Susan Rohrer, museum manager, the historic South Capitol Neighborhood, is one of the largest National Registry Districts in Washington, numbering more than 4,400 homes within a twenty four block area, quirky stories of colorful residents, unusual homes, and local mysteries make up this one hour guided tour, in the region’s unofficial home of Halloween, Oct. 24 2-3 pm, Oct 31 please gather by 1:45 pm, tours begin at 2 pm, limited to the first 20 guests, suggested donation $2 (211 SW 21st Avenue, 360.753.2580)


Gig Harbor's Annual Haunted House! Gig Harbor. Take a guided tour through the Theatre of Lost Souls!! The Thurston County Scare Lacey.
