Community Kid’s Day

Let the kids go crazy

In its third year, Saturday’s Community Kid’s Day at Lakewold Gardens is geared toward preschool and grade school-age children and their parents. Becky Roger from Lakewold Gardens’ Program Services says the word is about the fun, educational annual event at this historical 10-acre garden estate.

Now the kids probably aren’t going to care about the historical value of the property they’re romping on, but it’s a safe bet they will be into the hands-on activities of scavenger hunting, paint a magnetic insect, flowerpot decorating, face painting, and very cool origami memory box making.

As a treat, Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium will have a live animal exhibit where the kids can get up close and pet furry creatures. Kids and parents can learn together about Northwest plants and tour the gardens.

Tacoma’s Nature Center and Audubon Society offer learning games to encourage youngsters to be curious about the grass they stand in, the trees that sway in the breeze, the bright colored flowers their mothers love and the little insects that crawl on the petals.

Grab your kid and get outside Saturday.
