Preparing for Maui

What I spent my paycheck on this week

Toys for tots, Maui style

Put the significant one, our daughter, and me into a three bedroom condo on Ka’anapali beach with two other couples and a 1-year-old, and you have the Hawaiian vacation I’m about to embark upon.

It’s going to be fun, I have no doubt, though I’m a little concerned about sharing a space with a teeny wee one, since it’s been a while since our kid was in place-into-mouth mode with all her toys.

But I’m ever anxious to make the best of a situation, especially if shopping can help me to accomplish that. Put me in a new store with the best eeBoo toys ever, and then throw in hilariously cute onesies and yummy Zutano clothes, and I’m in Heaven. Elevate my Heaven one step, if you can, by throwing in sweet vintage-flavored bibs and changing cloths, and then place a choir of angels above a sushi-themed bib/toy combo.

In point of fact, though, I didn’t buy the wooden sushi toy because I spied with my practiced eye a toy I knew my kid would love, while setting it up for wee one: stacking blocks with fabulous illustrations, which will be a welcomed first Birthday gift for the little guy. And in case our bigger gal has issues letting said toy go, I found a fab collection of books, games and drawing implements to make her feel like a fairy queen.

All the sudden, the trip to Maui is sounding sunny and bright.

Maui mom style, Tiki-style

Since I was in that little haven on North Tacoma Avenue, I had to stop into one of my favorite boutiques of all time and see all the super groovy, cool sales goods that I could easily flaunt on the beach or poolside at Tiki Lounge.

My eyes quickly drifted to flip-flops, since my urgent and burning need is for The Perfect Pair of vacation shoes, but none fit. Aaaargh.

As to sales clothing? Aaaaaagh, the sequel.

And then I spied the counter, with the most deliciously delightful silver naturally inspired jewelry (must … have … dragonflies …) and the new Jelly Pong Pong line of face nummies.

The milk Gourmet Lip Therapy, flavored like cake in love, rocked my world.

Consider me ready to take on the world, and Maui!
