Booze and music — is there any greater combination in this world? The link between the two even exceeds the grandeur of the marriage of booze and sport. The more randy-minded readers will admit the frequency with which all three parties join forces to ensure extravagant levels of fun, the ménage a trios for the truly hedonistic. Think about it: Abstinence, sobriety and rock ‘n roll — it neither rolls off the tongue nor inspires; it might be the lamest triumvirate in recorded history.
Therefore, when Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” blasted out of the Westgate Inn’s juke last Sunday afternoon, I threw a skirt on and demanded Pineapple Upside-Down Cake. My date sipped her massive Patrón shot (that’s the Westgate way), rolled her eyes and pulled her purse toward herself.
Yes it’s a girly drink. So what. The vanilla Stoli, pineapple juice, Triple sec and Rosie’s Lime Juice tastes just like the dessert my mom owned back in the day. It’s pure comfort. And no one gave a crap. While Friday and Saturday nights are lively karaoke nights, Westgate Sunday afternoons are for escaping, to watch the game, hide in one of the corners of the multi-room joint, and talk to your drink.
It goes on and on and on and on.
