Bryant Speer, Brian Woobank, and lots of hair

Extensions in Federal Way

When Salon Benjamin gets involved in doing the hair for the fashion show thrown by Red Line Style at Syren Lounge Saturday, March 31, there may be some tufts of brightness to see — courtesy of some extension magic.

Bryan Woobank, whose goal is to see Federal Way turn to Federal L.A. via the Hair Shop line of extensions he carries, and Bryson Speer, who gave me a quick hair extension tutorial, both work in Salon Benjamin as well as touring with hair shows and education hair care professionals about extension methods.  The methods they employ and teach range from the strand to strand method that utilizes copper tubes, plastic tubes, or a straight keratin bond as well as weft extensions, cornrow extensions, and temporary clip-on extensions.

Getting extensions isn’t just about going to great lengths: Speer explains that extensions can be used for fullness, highlights and even to enhance existing wave since the extension line has various textures of hair.

But don’t go in expecting a six-month “fix.”  The men at Salon Benjamin have clients sign a waiver stating they understand the care and maintenance of the hair, which includes coming in about every couple of months for removal. Weft-style hair can be reused, where the single strands have a shorter life of reuse. — Jessica Corey-Butler
