ANNOUNCER: After visiting the McKinley District to check out Dusty's Hideaway, Dutch and Jackie spied another newcomer to the neighborhood, Lux Perpetua Coffee. Needing some caffeination, the two made a quick stop to check it out.

JACKIE: Artsy skateboard decks adorn the walls (though, with a rotating gallery these things may change), pops of color throughout the intimate space courtesy of fresh bouquets, and a vintage vibe with sturdy tables and chairs makes Lux feel warm and unpretentious.

DUTCH: I love a good neighborhood coffee shop and the rotating gallery is simply one more contribution to the local flavor. I choose to embrace the local feel and sat at one of the tables available outside where I could watch the comings and goings of all the people on a nice summer day. As an added bonus, I got to enjoy sipping coffee with my dog at my feet.

JACKIE: The menu is pretty straight forward, espresso drinks, some bottled and canned beverage options, Ellenos yogurt and Macrina baked goods. While you're not necessarily coming here for a meal, Ellenos and Macrina are aces in my book and both pair well with a finely roasted bean concoction. Oh, and beans by Manifesto Coffee. Solid choices throughout.

DUTCH: I dove into a Macrina Bakery cinnamon roll which boasts a fresh sweet bread in more of a monkey bread-styled pull apart muffin. This baking choice ensures plenty of cinnamon in each bite -- and after all, isn't that the point? The roll is then drenched in fresh cream cheese icing, which was ample enough for dipping each bite between sips of coffee.

JACKIE: I forgot to mention the service, uber friendly and a clear pride in their craft. I think the neighborhood has gained a fantastic new space to connect and caffeinate.

DUTCH: Lastly and most importantly is the Manifesto Coffee, another locally sourced product that is roasted in the NW tradition of smooth and robust dark brews. I thoroughly enjoyed a latte that combined the robust brew with creamy whole milk and plenty of foam to hold the aroma of the espresso. I like how the aroma with each sip completes the full experience by hitting all the senses.

LUX PERPETUA COFFEE, 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday; 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 3535 McKinley Ave., Tacoma
