ANNOUNCER: If you grew up in the Lakewood area, then you either know Tijuana Taco as a high schooler hanging out there on a weekend night, or you worked behind the counter with a gaggle of your friends.  Tijuana Taco has managed to stay in business despite the Taco Bells and Taco Times, and stay true to their menu and décor.

JASON: Nostalgia and high school memories come quickly to mind, especially walking inside and realizing this place hasn't changed in decades.

JAKE: Literally, I think it is the same 1970's décor, although well polished and taken care of - it doesn't feel neglected.

JASON: I haven't been in here for a long time, and yet it's the same in so many ways.  In my early 20's I ate a lot of taco salads here, and you know what, they still taste the same.  This isn't high-end, finely crafted food, but in comparison with Taco Bell, it's slightly better.

JAKE: Tacos, burritos, tostadas, and even nachos; they've got them all here available with your choice of meat or beans.  Fortunately, unlike most fast food restaurants, you can even grab an ice cold Mexican beer.  And nothing compares to a cold beer with Mexican food.

JASON: I ordered the grande nachos - a decent size with real cheese melted on top, bits of jalapeno, beans and sour cream - not bad.

JAKE:  The basic nachos are available for about $4 and are exactly as advertised, a pile of crispy tortilla chips with real cheddar cheese melted on top.  For just a bit more, you can add beans, chicken or beef, or even both if you like.

JASON: I also enjoyed the chimichanga - fried at the edges but more soft tortilla than a lot of places.  It was packed with ground beef and rice, and the sauce was earthy and savory - not sweet or salsa-like.

JAKE: I ordered the beef enchiladas with steak, and they arrived quickly.  Tucked in between taco shell halves, the meat was absolutely full of flavor and red sauce, and a helping of melted cheese. The taco burger has been on the menu for as long as I can remember, and it is a treat that is unique to Tijuana Taco.  A burger bun surrounds seasoned ground beef, cheese and lettuce.  Basically a sloppy joe, but with Mexican flare.  Give this a try with something from the aforementioned cold beer selection.
