Moveable Feast a huge success

By Adrienne Kuehl on August 1, 2013

Hordes of South Sounders flocked to the second annual Moveable Feast, a gathering of 38 food trucks and seven breweries held July 28 at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma. Organizer Alyson Jones expected 8,000 visitors for the day, making it the largest food truck gathering in Tacoma.

Compared to last year, this year's event was more organized, with specific areas and access inside the stadium instead of just the main parking lot area. However, I think the dessert section and Made in Tacoma marketplace might not have gotten as much foot traffic since they were inside the stadium and away from the main food truck area.

There was no shortage of excellent eats. Lumpia World tends to garner long lines, and for good reason. The combo lumpia plate ($6) was flavorful and crispy. New-to-me The Box had sweet and tender pork belly hum bao ($2.75) in a fluffy steamed bun. The jambalaya ($6) from Jemil's Big Easy was perfectly seasoned, loaded with chicken and sausage and my favorite dish. A close second was the Shibuya Dog ($6) from Tokyo Dog, a juicy beef frank with caramelized onions, miso mayo and nori. Build-your-own ice cream sandwiches ($5), with choice of cookie and ice cream from Street Treats, were fun to create and eat.

Excuse me while I enter a food coma.
