TOAST OF TACOMA

Perhaps you missed the big toast to ring in the New Year, or maybe you just love wine. Whatever the case, Jan. 25 from 7-10 p.m. El Gaucho (2119 Pacific Ave., Tacoma) will host its first ever Toast of Tacoma. Featuring several Washington wineries and pairing them with delectable nibbles ($95 per person all inclusive) you can celebrate just some of the luxuries Tacoma has to offer with the clinking of glasses. If you're feeling like getting a little toasty you can bring the party to Hotel Murano, who will be featuring special rates for participants and a shuttle to and from the evenings happenings.

WRIST MAGAZINE

The Social Bar and Grill (1715 Dock St., Tacoma) hosts local creative writing publication Wrist Magazine's launch party Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. Beats provided by DJ Mr. Melanin while you can meet the staff and local authors and nosh on culinary treats and sip on some of the best craft cocktails in town. Tacoma winery 21 Cellars will be in the house too.  

URBAN SHOPPING AND COCKTAILS

Nab caramels from Fingerprint Confections, delectable jams courtesy of the One Spot Jams and all of your seasoning needs from Libertine Tacoma at this month's Urban Shopping and Cocktails event Saturday, Jan. 19. Christy Reedy presents all of these edible treats and other vendors with non-brick and mortar businesses with a Valentine's Day flair this time. Find some goods to woo on the big day. DEATH BY CHOCOLATE

Death by Chocolate, the only way to go with a smile on your face - well, there might be a couple of other ways. Freighthouse Square (2501 E. D St., Tacoma) holds its first ever Death by Chocolate Weekend beginning Friday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. Free chocolate treats with every purchase. Spend $5 and up and be entered into a raffle to score an indulgent chocolate gift basket. Plus lots of "sidewalk" sale steals and deals as an added incentive if chocolate-y goodness isn't enough.

WINE TASTING

Charlie's Restaurant and Lounge (113 E. Main St., Puyallup) will host a wine tasting in their banquet room on Tuesday, Jan. 29 from 6:30-8 p.m. Highlighting six different wines being paired with appetizers and desserts. This event costs $20.
