BITE US: Putt and a sandwich

Dining outdoors at Meadow Park Golf Course

By Jake de Paul on August 10, 2011

If you're going to get better, you'll need to do what every weekend golfer despises: practice. And while there are plenty of great driving ranges in the area, none is more convenient for Lakewood workers than Meadow Park Golf Course's small but functional practice area - a matted range, plus chipping and putting greens to hone the short game.

And for Lakewood residents who enjoy the animated frustrations of practice, may I suggest a seat on the new MP's Grille's patio - with a full view of the three practice spots.

After a long delay, Lancer Catering finally opened MP's Grille across the walkway from Meadow Park's pro shop in June, serving appetizers, sandwiches, salads, burgers and cold brews. My starter salad arrived loaded and fresh. The Deli Melt sandwich came with very fresh ciabatta bread. A breakfast sandwich and burrito grace the menu all day, although the ends of the burrito needed a divot repair tool to chisel through to the chorizo sausage, scrambled eggs and cheddar and jack cheeses.

Breaded Pacific halibut, barbecue chicken sandwich, a salmon club (tops the price list at $8.75) and a triple grilled cheese will be there for the next round.

Oh, and golfers, don't forget to take off your spikes before that 2:30 p.m. staff meeting.
