The Review

Reviewed by: Jennifer Johnson

The quintessential mom and pop diner, Patty's Burgers & Milkshakes on South Tacoma Way opened about four months ago and has already gained a loyal following. Decorated with pictures of hotrods, James Dean, Elvis and Marilyn Monroe, and photos of customers enjoying gigantic burgers, the red and tan interior has a 1950's retro diner feel.

Patty's serves breakfast, burgers and sandwiches, fish and chips, salads and hot dogs, sundaes, banana splits and ice cream cones (ice cream is half-off during happy hour, 5-7 p.m.).  Two menu items are simply outrageous gastro offerings: an 8-egg monster omelet with bacon, sausage, ham and veggies ($9.99), and The Cake Burger - seven hamburger patties and all the fixings are held between home made bread buns ($21.99). To quench your thirst try a huge root beer float with whipped cream.

Fries are straight cut and sprinkled with tangy seasoning salt; onion rings have minimal batter. Fast, friendly service, decent portions and fair prices make Patty's a hit.

Being a native of Tacoma I have tried many restaurants through my years. I have to say that I was a little scared to try patty's at first. I thought it would be just another Restaurant t that would come and go. I went there probably a month after Patty's opened because I literally live right next door. I was shocked when I walked in to say the least, because it was very packed and only a few spots left. Though the restaurant itself is small it's very homey feeling and it's like you're in a classic ma and pop place. The waitresses are amazing, I say this because they wait on you with in a minute of being seated they are always making sure you are okay and i have a 4year old and they are great with him let him pay his check on his own, make sure he feels like a big boy most importantly they make us feel as if we are part of their world. The food also is the best I've had in sometime. I now am a regular and go there at least 2x a week. My final thought on Patty's is they are a part of my community and family now. I would recommend Patty's to anyone! My first date with my boyfriend was there!

We had breakfast here this morning and really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Though the service was a little off (to be fair, we were probably in a little after rush-hour and the girls were trying to regen) we received our food quickly, though a few items asked for were not brought out the first time and we had to remind. Prices were fair and the servings generous, we did not leave hungry. We will go back and have already recommended Patty's to several people.

I have been going to Patty's since they have opened and there just isn't anything bad to say about them. The have added to the decorations throughout the past couple of years so there is plenty to look at. A slide show plays on a monitor of all those that have taken on the cake burger challenge. My favorite is the Patty's Burger. The service is great and they will be around for along time.
