A smiling Chef Mueller oversees the bistro room across a half wall separating the open-air kitchen from a seven-table space. Having breakfast and lunch in the small, comfortable room is like costarring on a cooking show; the intimate proximity of the kitchen is that great.
Intelligent portion control is key at Babblin' Babs. Average Americans eat twice the needed amount at every meal. Chef Mueller addresses this in his preparation. Everything offered demands that attention be paid to the nontraditional ingredients. Nothing Chef Mueller does or creates is by chance.
Organic Ethiopian or Indonesian coffees and pleasing varieties of non-alcoholic bottled drinks from across the globe or bottled here in the United States are offered. Sweet, carbonated Brainalizer has subtle citrus notes, but no additives, colors or fake flavors.
From Southwestern corn chowder consisting purely of corn kernels and thin broth spiked with tangy lime and earthy cilantro to French ham and cheese sandwiches on apple pecan rye bread, nothing is simple or plain.
Hours: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday

I was really looking forward to trying Bab's for b'fast but was disappointed because my food had cooled off while waiting for my girlfriends' to finish cooking. The Chef and wife didn't seem to want to be there that morning , not that they were rude, but not the smiles as advertised and no interaction. Not sure if i'll go back.

Babblin Bab's is the best breakfast in Tacoma bar none. Service can be spotty, but who gives a damn, if the food is this good?

Say what you will about the Chef. He is eccentric as every chef should be. The food is INCREDIBLE, under-priced, and so very creative.

Was not impressed, I gave this 2 stars on yelp, not sure why. I live walking distance, blocks north of this place, and want it to be good, but it's not.
My girlfriend and I thought the food was bland, a table of 6 were very loud, weren't asked to keep it down, and when we got the receipt, it definitely sold us on never coming here again. I'll be sticking to Old Milwaukee and DOA....and the odd trips to The Harvester, instead...like I said, I'm just a few blocks north of this place, and wish it was good, because I'm lazy, every time I can be!...BUT, I'm not going to spend $30+ for breakfast for my girlfriend and I, to have bland tasting food!
