Off the V-Day path

Try something different this Valentine's Day

By Volcano Staff on February 9, 2017

Looking for something different this Valentine's Day? Not excited by the prospect of the typical dinner for two, glass of wine and then rush home to catch This Is Us?

What follows are a few ideas for the more adventurous:

Love at the Zoo

Maybe you're stuck with the little ones this weekend. Gather them up - even the neighbor's kids (quid pro quo?) - for a day of feeling the love of the Point Defiance Zoo animals while enjoying special treats.
Watch the polar bears Boris and Blizzard enjoy ice treats, catch elephants Hanako and Suki devour carved watermelons, and witness sharks nibble on heart-shaped treats.
10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday-Sunday, Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium, 5400 N. Pearl St., Tacoma, check schedule of events at pdza.org

Winter Sip & Stroll
Does your Valentine's wish include shopping and a little exercise? Stroll beautiful downtown Gig Harbor while savoring sips and tastes and more at the 15 stops during the Harbor Wine and Food Fest.
1-5 p.m., Saturday, $30-$35, Gig Harbor Waterfront, harborwineandfoodfest.com

Wine & Chocolate
A fan of Hollywood-style romance? Have you seen Sleepless in Seattle more than once? Then take a stroll through the romantically lit W.W. Seymour Conservatory in Wright Park. Sip on wine or champagne, nibble on decadent truffles and savory treats, all the while being romanced by live music and beautiful floral displays.
5:30-7 p.m., Friday, $40, 316 South G St., Tacoma, seymourconservatory.org

Be Our Sour Valentine
Maybe you're not into Valentine's Day at all. Bad breakup? Don't care for gimmicky holidays? For you, Peaks and Pints craft beer taproom and eatery in Proctor is teaming with E9 Brewery for an anti-Valentine's Day event featuring award-winning sour beers and the talents of singer-songwriter, and Peaks and Pints bartender, Kristen Marlo.
6-9 p.m., Tuesday, 3816 N. 26th St., Tacoma, 253.328.5621, peaksandpints.com
