Are you looking for a fun Memorial Day Activity? Would you like to explore the lovely little town of Gig Harbor?

Tom Taylor Family YMCA, in partnership with MultiCare Gig Harbor Medical Park, Olympic Property Group, Columbia Bank, and the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation, presents the Gig Harbor Street Scramble, Saturday, May 23, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Skansie Brothers' Park (3211 Harborview Dr. in Gig Harbor), WA, on Saturday, May 23, for this year's YMCA Gig Harbor Street Scramble.

Promptly at 9:30 a.m., participants will receive a map. On the map are 30 circled checkpoints along with brief descriptions such as, "sculpture" or "road bend". Participating teams and individuals have thirty minutes to plot their strategy before the Scramble begins at 10 a.m.

The object of the Scramble is to visit all 30 check points within the allotted time. Participants can choose either the 90 minute Scramble (perfect for bikers and runners) or the three-hour scramble (ideal for walkers). Scramblers are required to answer a question about each checkpoint, for instance: "What is the second word on the sculpture's plaque?" When all 30 checkpoints have been visited, and all 30 questions answered correctly, it's time to hurry back to Skansie Brothers' Park before the deadline for awards, live music, interactive booths and refreshments.

Be sure to bring a watch and something to write with. A compass, water, snacks and a Gig Harbor street map might also come in handy. And don't forget to wear comfortable shoes and dress for the not-always-predictable South Sound weather.

Although the Gig Harbor Street Scramble is free to the public, registrations are required. Individuals and teams can download a registration card at www.ymcapkc.org/calendar or register at the park the day of the Scramble. The first 200 online registrants will receive a free T-shirt.
