Lourdes (Lou) Faletagoai, the daughter of Sgt. First Class Usoalii Faletagoai, a combat engineer at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, took up wrestling three years ago in her sophomore year at Clover Park High School in Lakewood.  As of this past weekend, she is now the Washington state champion in women's wrestling in her weight class.

"I give it all to God," she said Tuesday. "Everything I have done is through the grace of God."

Faletagoai started wrestling to get into shape and fell immediately in love with the sport. A senior at Clover Park, she wrestled at 235 pounds, and stayed undefeated the entire year in her bouts with girls, winning every tournament she competed.  She also placed third in tournaments against boys.

Now, with the state win, her options have opened.

"I have to pray about what to do," she added.

After high school, Faletagoai planned to enlist in the Air Force, transfer to the reserves and become a beautician.  Now with offers from colleges, she is rethinking that plan.

"I think it might be great to major in business or literature - but I don't know yet," she said.

She does think it would be great to keep wrestling.  "That would be cool."
