The Pointe du Hoc Foundation plans on tacking hard into the wind, putting as much canvas into the wind as it sails on Puget Sound.

You are invited.

The foundation invites all interested parties and individuals to join it on Aug. 27 as it hosts the "Ranger Regatta" on Puget Sound at the Tacoma Yacht Club followed by a salmon bake at Wollochet.

This event promises to be an awesome August adventure.

"We started small, but we have made a large impact," said Randy Inman, a foundation board member and former Ranger.

Other activities the foundation has completed this year are the Fight for Air Climb (January), the Ranger Open House (May), the Ranger Scholarship Awards Ceremony (June) and the regatta.

"We will continue to grow, and sailing on the Sound is evidence of that," Inman said.

The Pointe du Hoc Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit established to recognize and commemorate the Special Operations Forces warriors and families of 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment located at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

The foundation is historically connected to the World War II Rangers who scaled the cliffs at Pointe du Hoc, Normandy on D-Day, 1944.

"Wherever the Ranger Battalion goes, it is apparent that it is the best," former Army Chief of Staff Gen. Creighton Abrams said in 1974.

Nothing has changed.

Since 9/11, 2/75 Rangers have remained a pivotal force in combating terrorism, conducting 18 combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Pointe du Hoc Foundation works to support these soldiers and their families.

"There was nothing here on the west coast to help these soldiers transition to the civilian world," continued Inman.

Led and sustained by volunteers since its inception in 2011, the foundation partners with government and local leaders, local and national businesses, and friends of the battalion, to provide support to Rangers and family members who served honorably in the unit.

While donations to the foundation help assist Rangers transitioning into the civilian world, they also help provide educational support to family members, assist with career counseling, augment existing Wounded Warrior programs and maintain the 2/75 Memorial.

Sponsorships range from $100 to $3,000.

"We've come a long way, and we will continue to push forward," Inman said.

All donations to the Point du Hoc Foundation will be used to directly support 2/75 Rangers and their families.
