There are many ribbons available in the Army for almost everything. A ribbon has been unveiled that is awarded to soldiers who refer friends. Participants in the Soldier Referral Program are eligible for the new ribbon, provided the referral attends Basic Combat Training.

Brian McGovern, deputy director of public affairs at the U.S. Army Recruiting Command wrote in a recent statement that "the Soldier Referral Program generated approximately 5,300 referrals," since its inception nearly two months ago. "The Army has seen success in recruiting over 76 new soldiers since the program's launch. We expect solid growth as we continue to build on this momentum," McGovern added.

The ribbon consists of four award levels, each worth 10 promotion points, allowing all soldiers to pursue higher levels of achievement, according to a Dept of Army story in January.

After a fiscal year where the Army failed to meet its active-duty recruitment goal by 15,000 troops, the nation's oldest branch invested in a variety of tactics to increase its recruiting numbers.

McGovern stated that the program will continue to give soldiers the chance to invest in their Army through referring highly qualified individuals to serve.

In other recruiting news, an updated version of the Army's 1980s marketing campaign was also revived by the Army this month as a modernized "Be All You Can Be" slogan. The service had to remove its ads after its spokesperson for advertising, Jonathan Majors was charged with allegedly assaulting a woman.
