If one were to walk into Spanaway Lake High School on Saturday, March 5, they would've heard the sound of coreframe patent-leather shoes click-clacking on linoleum and of commands out back. Of spinning rifles and cadets in military uniforms rushing to their formations. Of facing movements and cadets chatting about their units to adjacent schools who are buddies but will soon be rivals in an hour or two.

The Graham-Kapowsin High School's Eagle Battalion was one of the schools that attended the Drill Competition with two Color Guard teams, two Physical Fitness teams, one Drill team and one Dual Rifle team.

Their Color Guards competed bright and early first thing in the morning. Team A, which consisted of Isaac Lezano, Caleb Dewilde, Trent Lowry and James Ketola, placed fifth among 11 schools, while Team B (Tabatha Fairbanks, Tattiana Ohme, Jessica Livolsi and Eden Kelshaw) took home a third place finish.

The Unarmed Drill Team, commanded by Ketola, did fairly well on its knowledge and regulation; however, with lots of practice, their exhibition routine should improve immensely by the next drill meet

A little while later, the Dual Rifle team of Raymond Caldwell and Juan Sepulveda did its best to compete in a difficult field.

Raider Team A and B rocked the competition with two minute sit-ups, two minute push-ups and a one-mile run. Michael Smith placed first for individual Raider Team scores, while Team A placed fourth.
