In the South Puget Sound region, Pristine Mental Health is a leader in providing mental health services to individuals facing the challenges of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD.

One of the individuals who stands ready and able to help those confronting PTSD is Tom Yarber, a triple board-certified Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, and Adult Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist.

"I had referred patients to Dr. Penner in the past because I knew he was passionate about patient care," Yarber said.

Founded by Dr. David Penner, a Harvard-trained psychiatrist who is dual board certified in Psychiatry and the Subspeciality of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Pristine Mental Health provides high-quality and holistic mental health care which is tailored to each patient.

"Each individual is seen as a person, not a number," said Penner in a Psychology Today article.

Yarber, who holds a Master of Science degree in Psychiatric Nursing and a post-Master's Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate, is well qualified to work in this environment.

He has practiced in a wide range of specialties, to include community mental health, corrections, and acute inpatient psychiatry.

"Our patients at Pristine Mental Health are treated respectfully and with thorough care," he added. "This is what we do as mental health providers."

The retired Army colonel, he served as a nurse and nurse practitioner. During his career, he deployed on six different occasions - the Balkans in 1997 and 1998; Iraq in 2003, 2004 and 2007; and Afghanistan in 2011.

Looking for an opportunity to continue to serve, he joint Pristine Mental Health in December of 2020.

"I was looking for new opportunities, and Pristine Mental Health provides care to active duty, veterans, retirees and their families," he explained.

Pristine Mental Health has two clinics. The Hawks Prairie Clinic is located at 8765 Tallon Lane, NE, Suite Q, Lacey; the West Olympia Clinic is located at 1801 West Bay Dr. NW, Suite 104, Olympia.
