Children's Day has been a part of Lacey's history for 26 years. Lacey Parks, Culture and Recreation's free event takes place every year on the first Saturday in October and is an opportunity to bring together families, educators, local organizations and community members to celebrate the city's youngest citizens. This event is a reflection of Lacey's dedication to promoting the well-being and development of children, recognizing them as the future leaders, thinkers, and creators of our society.

This year's event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Huntamer Park, and this year's theme is bugs and insects! Portland Insectarium will be onsite hosting interactive displays for attendees to enjoy and learn from, which includes live bugs ready to interact with kids. Insect Safari will feature a collection of 20 years' worth of insects preserved by owner, Don Ehlen. Both insect encounters will offer an up-close experience as well as lots of knowledge for young curious minds about bugs.

Other highlights of the day will include performances by local dance groups, inflatables, crafts, games and more.

Plus, delicious food will be available to purchase from local vendors. Chick-fil-A will be onsite with chicken burgers and chicken nuggets. Stacks Burgers will be serving delicious burgers while other vendors will feature cotton candy, kettle corn and ice cream.

Don't miss a fun opportunity to spend the day as a family learning about bugs and insects and interacting with the local community.
