Fall fun is waiting in Thurston County

Pumpkin patches, corn mazes and family-fun activities available in abundance

Fall is in full swing and so is the fun in Thurston County. Farms all over the county are welcoming visitors to pick pumpkins, explore corn mazes and enjoy an abundance of other fall activities - and the small town of Bucoda, Washington has already transformed into the ultimate destination for Halloween enthusiasts.

Located just 20 miles south of Olympia, Bucoda has transformed itself into "Boo-coda" with a host of spooky activities continuing throughout the month of October. These include casket races, hearse processions, jack-o-lantern carving contest, a zombie 5k race and a haunted house, which is not for the faint of heart. The haunted house, deemed as Scary Nights, is located inside the Bucoda haunted gym and open every Friday and Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. For more information on the spooky town and a full schedule of activities visit  https://www.experienceolympia.com/events/.

Another must-do during the fall season is to stop by one of the four farms just beyond Olympia for family-friendly activities.

Rutledge Family Farm is located about 30 miles from JBLM and is the perfect place to find a pumpkin, get lost in a corn maze, or challenge your friends and family to a game of corn hole. Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Oct. 31. For more information, go to https://www.experienceolympia.com/listing/rutledge-corn-maze-llc/569/.

Another option located about 15 miles from JBLM is Schilter Family Farm in Nisqually. A large pumpkin patch and a five-acre corn maze will welcome you and your family. We recommend coming hungry, because the corn on the cob, hand-cut fries and cider donuts won't disappoint. Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday-Thursday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday through Oct. 31. More information is available at https://www.experienceolympia.com/listing/schilter-family-farm/239/

Also located in Nisqually is Pigmans Produce, a six-acre vegetable and berry farm that transforms into a pumpkin patch during the fall. If you're looking for the perfect pumpkin to carve, look no further than this farm. Open until Oct. 31, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday-Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday.

Hunter Family Farm, located in Olympia, has an abundance of fall activities that will keep the whole family entertained. Multiple mazes, kiddie train rides, a super slide and pumpkins of every shape and size can be found on the farm. Open noon to 6 p.m., Thursday-Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekends through Saturday, Oct. 30. For more information, visit https://www.experienceolympia.com/listing/hunter-family-farm-llc/559/
