A new beer concept has rolled into Tacoma and we wasted no time trying it out. The Redd Dog is a U-Pour it pub located on Sixth Ave. and is the first of its kind in the city. The concept is exactly how it sounds, their self-serve tap wall provides a variety of beer, cider, wine and kombucha allowing customers to self-pour as little or as much as desired.

When you arrive you will want to check in at the register where you will need to verify you are 21 or older and then load a prepaid card with the amount of money you wish to spend. Once loaded it's time to head over to the U-Pour it wall where you can pour as little as one ounce in the search for the perfect beverage, or fully commit and pour larger than an ounce. The concept provides the opportunity to see how many ounces are being consumed and how much money is being spent in real time.

A wide selection is available to choose from, as well as flights with four smaller glasses. And we have to mention that the flight boards are so perfectly themed in the shape of a paw print.

Watermelon Cider, Cucumber Hibiscus Cider and Carina Peach Sour are refreshing options on a hot summer day. You can never go wrong with 7 Seas 253 Pilsner, Sightglass Hazy Pale or Dang! Citrus IPA.  Alexandria Nicole Rose, Broadside Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles and other wine selections are an option as well as JuneShine and Boochcraft Hard Kombucha. Drafts are continuously rotating, so selection could be different on every visit.

Once you grab your beverage of choice, opt to play some shuffle board or grab a seat to watch the Olympics or a Seahawk game. We also recommend ordering at least one item off their extensive food menu, which follows a similar concept allowing guests to view the menu, order and pay all from their phone.

Shareables such as nachos, the Big Redd Pretzel and wings always pair well with any beverage. The Mac and Cheese, grilled cheese and fish & chips make it feel impossible to only choose one. The 12" pizzas and hot sandwiches are very delicious as well. Our favorite was the Rad Dog pizza including basil pesto, mozzarella, roasted garlic, Kalamata olives, roasted yellow tomatoes, scallions and garlic oil.

If you manage to save room for dessert we recommend the Doggie Doughnut Holes, served with dippers of chocolate or caramel. If you have kids, they are allowed in the establishment and there is a kids' menu available.

If you're wanting to check out the U-Pour it concept, but don't have time to stay, fear not. You can fill a growler and take it to-go. Either bring your own growler and pay per ounce or purchase a growler on site.
