Planning a vacation can become a chore, but thanks to Joint Base Lewis-McChord's Leisure Travel Services, the only difficulty will be deciding where to go: Oregon coast? Hawaii? A cruise?

Coming March 6, LTS will host its fifth annual Passport to Travel Show at the AFC Arena from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where dozens of event ticket and travel vendors will offer deep discounts for military ID cardholders.

"We want to let people know what's out there," said Robee Cosby, LTS lead recreation assistant.

Leisure Travel Services is similar to a full-service travel agency and offers booking assistance for all types of getaways like weeklong vacations or simple day trips. Cosby said most reservations are discounted at least 10 percent, but savings can be as much as 50 percent. The most popular destinations are family-oriented, like Disneyland and Disneyworld, she said, and LTS offers a list of discounted hotels for driving vacations. However, LTS does not book domestic air travel unless it's part of a package.

"We have all the capabilties of a travel agency, except booking domestic air by itself," Cosby said.

In its fifth year of organizing the travel show, LTS schedules the event when it is most convenient to military ID cardholders, civilians and retirees.

"During the day in the middle of the week is when most people are here," Cosby said. "We want people to come over on their lunch break. It's a fun time."

The LTS office is also a Ticketmaster outlet and offers event tickets to local concerts and sporting events. The advantage, Cosby said, is that LTS does not charge a convenience fee, which saves a few dollars.

Leisure Travel Services updates its price list monthly and posts it on the JBLM MWR website at www.jblmmwr.com/ leisure_travel.html. Travelers can find information about attractions in the local area and throughout the U.S. that offer military discounts by clicking "LTS Price List." There is also a shopping site for cruises and vacations at fortlewis.mwrtvl.com to help travelers determine cost. Bookings cannot be made on the site, Cosby said. Travelers should contact LTS for assistance with reservations.

The AFC Arena is at 2275 Liggett Ave., Lewis Main, next to Bowl Arena Lanes. For more details about LTS or the Passport to Travel Show, call 967-3085.
