Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) offers a variety of clubs and activities that are a fun way to fill off-duty time. With groups dedicated to everything from scuba diving to books, there is something for everyone. Here are a few you might be interested in.

The JBLM SCUBA Club meets the third Thursday of the month, gathering at either McNamara's restaurant in DuPont or at the Northwest Adventure Center on base. The club is a group of divers located on and around JBLM. They meet once a month and plan dives and other events. The JBLM Alpine Club is for like-minded adventurers who love rock climbing, backcountry skiing, snowboarding and mountaineering. Beginner and intermediate courses are offered for those who are new to these sports. Some of the clubs' trips have prerequisites, but if you have experience, you can take a challenge skills test and be exempted from the courses. The club provides the technical gear, including boots and rock shoes. You will need to provide your backpack, food and clothing. The JBLM Afterthought Book Club meets at the Grandstaff Library on Lewis Main the fourth Thursday of every month from 5-7 p.m. An all-inclusive book club for adult readers, the group explores books from all genres and is always looking for new books to enjoy. If you've recently PCS'd and miss your book club, this is the place to go.

The Hilltop Youth Center offers a variety of high school student clubs, each of which is meant to teach citizenship, values and leadership. The clubs are presented through partnerships with the Boys and Girls Club of America, 4-H Club, Red Cross, National Alliance for Youth Sports, and Character Counts. Students must be registered by a parent at CYS and the Teen Zone, and can participate in the Keystone Club, Torch Club, Power Hour, and the Work Force and Technology Center. The Lewis Community Spouses Club is an active group of military spouses who come together for friendship. It is volunteer run and open to all spouses of active-duty, Reserve, National Guard and retired personnel of the Armed Forces, as well as Gold Star spouses. The Sergeant Audie Murphy Club (SAMC) is a private U.S. Army organization which is only for Noncommissioned Officers whose leadership achievements and performance merit a special recognition. Before qualifying to join, members must complete a rigorous set of evaluations.
