For parents new to the community, deciding which school to educate one's children is a big decision.

The Clover Park School District understands this concern, and it works to ensure that the children in its care receive the best.

"Families can expect a welcoming, committed school community, focused on the success of their child," said District Superintendent Doug Kernutt. "Our promise is to bring our best every day so we can help bring out the best in them, and our mission is to teach each child what he or she needs to know to succeed and contribute to the community."

The district serves nearly 13,000 students in 23 schools in the Lakewood and Joint Base Lewis-McChord communities.

The school district is committed to implementing innovative curriculum to provide teachers and administrators with professional development opportunities and programs that allow students to build skills, helping them find success after high school.

It is on this point that the school district walks its walk.

In a recent ranking conducted by US News and World Report, Harrison Preparatory School and Lakes High School ranked among the state's best schools. The schools were ranked on proficiency on state examinations, graduation rates and college readiness.

Harrison Prep ranked third in Washington state and 101st in the nation, while Lakes ranked 31st in the state and 2,057th nationally.

The national rankings are based on the 28,800 high schools throughout the country.

Closer to home in Pierce County, Harrison Prep ranks first and Lakes High School ranks third.

"Clover Park is a high performing school district recognized across the state and nation for effective instruction and academic excellence," continued Kernutt.

Of note, Harrison Prep offers an International Baccalaureate program and Lakes High offers numerous Advanced Placement courses.

"Our students are full of promise, and they are making great strides each day in their educational journey," Kernutt concluded. "We take this mission seriously, and we work to successfully accomplish it."
