Einstein Bros. Bagels is a bagel and coffee chain that provides Joint Base Lewis-McChord customers with a delicious variety of bagels.

Simply put, a bagel is a round bread made from five ingredients: flour, salt, water, yeast and malt. The dough is boiled and then baked to a rich caramel color; it should not be pale and blond.

A bagel should weigh four ounces or less, and it should make a slight cracking sound when bitten into. It should be served warm, and it should not be more than four or five hours old when consumed.

Einstein Bros. Bagels, created in 1995 and headquartered in Lakewood, Colorado, embraces and expands on this approach.

"It's why we get to the store at 2 a.m. every day and bake fresh bagels every four hours," the company's website says. "It's why we only use the finest ingredients to create the most inspiring flavors."

Accompanying its freshly made bagels is Caribou Coffee, which is handcrafted from one percent of the world's top coffee beans.

"We found our better half," continues the website.

It should come as no surprise, then, that Einstein Bros. Bagels has introduced what it calls the world's first caffeinated bagel, the Espresso Buzz Bagel.

Each bagel contains 32 milligrams of caffeine, or about one-third of what is in an average eight-ounce cup of coffee.

And it only gets better.

A mouthwatering menu of breakfast and lunch bagels comprises creations like Cheesy Mac Breakfast; Ham, Cheese and Bacon Egg Cup; Avocado Toast to Cheesy MacLunch; and Crispy Chicken and Tater Lunch.

Einstein Bros. Bagels has recently expanded its menu with the addition of a new Mac and Cheese bagel. It features Annie's organic cheddar macaroni and cheese -- along with six other melted cheeses -- baked directly into the potato bagel. Adding cream cheese only heightens the eating experience.

To further enhance its reputation, Einstein Bros. Bagels has released a limited run of Cheesy Shampoo and Wakin' Bacon Conditioner.

"We often find ourselves on autopilot in the mornings as we cope with the transition from sleep to a productive day," wrote Kerry Coyne, senior vice president of marketing, product and innovation, in a press release. "We want to awaken consumers' morning routines with something totally unexpected that will get them excited about breakfast and our delicious Cheesy Wakin' Bacon sandwich."

There are two Einstein Bros. Bagels located on JBLM: 3145 Pendleton Ave. and 2202 Ligget Ave.
