New 'military' series coming

Paramount+ has unveiled the premiere date and debut trailer for its thrilling espionage series, Special Ops: Lioness. In this high-stakes drama, Zoe Saldaña takes the lead as she spearheads a mission for the CIA's war on terror, only to face unexpected challenges behind enemy lines.

The trailer introduces Morgan Freeman as the mission commander, who candidly questions the cover-up of a CIA operation witnessed by CBS News. Created by Taylor Sheridan, known for his work on the popular Yellowstone series, Special Ops: Lioness promises an intense narrative. Global audiences can look forward to its release on July 23.

Saldaña portrays Joe, a CIA agent striving to maintain a delicate balance between her personal and professional life. Alongside her is Marine Raider Cruz, played by Laysla De Oliveira, as they devise a plan to infiltrate a terrorist organization by befriending the daughter of its leader. However, their covert mission takes a dangerous turn when they find themselves trapped deep in enemy territory, under constant threat of gunfire.

Drawing inspiration from an actual U.S. military operation, Special Ops: Lioness boasts an impressive cast including Michael Kelly, Nicole Kidman, Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Stephanie Nur, and Hannah Love Lanier. Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios exclusively for Paramount+, this gripping drama is sure to captivate viewers.

The executive producers of Special Ops: Lioness include Sheridan, David C. Glasser, Saldaña, Kidman, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Wagner, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Malone, and John Hillcoat.

Adding to Sheridan's expanding repertoire of Paramount+ projects, Lioness joins the likes of 1883, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, 1923, and the forthcoming Western series Lawman: Bass Reeves and Land Man.
