A Tacoma landmark for more than 100 years, Freighthouse Square is a 110,000 square-foot eclectic, urban shopping experience. In the midst of undergoing a sale (which is expected to be finalized by the end of the year), the square is looking to revamp itself with new stores, new eateries and fun activities for the family. In an effort to showcase some of the great new vendors and activities new to the square, on Saturday the square is hosting "Sample the Square."

The event features $3 samples from the square's international food vendors. There is also an indoor sidewalk sale with dollar items for sale, and up to 75 percent of other merchandise. And as a family affair, the square is hosting activities for kids such as the Family Fun Zone at City Blocks with Dan the Legoman. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., there is a little girl beauty day at Diva's Hair Studio. From 1 to 3 p.m., Seasonal Delight Café hosts a cookie decorating class, and from 3 to 5 p.m. Alkimea Jewelries hosts a jewelry making presentation.

"We are excited to have new vendors added to the square and our goal is to fill all the empty stall openings," said event organizer Lonee Peschon. "We currently have some new vendors waiting to finalize their contract and permits, and we are hoping the new activities and events will help to promote them."

The square has a variety of new vendors, ranging from clothing and electronics to jewelry, glass art, self-defense and bagels.

Some new stores that are sure to impress are Cherry Pick Boutique, which offers an eclectic array of clothing, hosieries and accessories, Reclamation Candle Company, which offers unique candles in vintage glassware and a collection of antiques, and Pip & Lola's Everything Homemade, which offers a variety of handmade soaps, pottery, one of kind designs and a great place to just browse and be inspired by the creativity. Looking for something to eat? Try the new Bagel Boyz Wholesale Bagels, which offers fresh bagels. Or you can try some of the old favorites like the Mediterranean Palace, which offers falafel and Gyro sandwiches amongst their vast menu - all cooked to order and fresh. Even if you are not looking for a large meal but just a little something to nibble on or some coffee, Seasonal Delight Café and Espresso Co. is the place, offering freshly baked cinnamon rolls and a variety of coffee drinks along with a great lunch menu.

Weather it's the old favorite vendors offering vintage clothing, retail variety stores, food vendors or the new exciting vendors offering glass work, handmade products, antiques and new food products, Freighthouse Square is a place to come and explore the old and new as it works to make a name in Tacoma as the place to go.
