Pick-Your-Own Produce

Sometimes being a hippy is a good thing

By Nikki Talotta on August 1, 2012

Pick- your-own farms are awesome. You are able to get into nature, support your local economy, and give your body a healthy treat.

Beginning mid-July, the season for beans, green cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, slicing squash and summer zucchini fruits is in full swing. Duris Farms in Puyallup offers all those produce pleasures, plus they carry supplies for canning, like dill and vinegar, so you can keep the produce party going. Imagine your own jar of hand-picked pickles, yum! Being a hippy never sounded so good! Open 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

This time of year, strawberries are usually done, but others, like blueberries, are ripe and ready. Dan and Crown Blueberry Lane in East Olympia offer an organic pick-your-own-experience and are open after 5 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. weekends.
