Make Olympia, a new flea market

Email Article Print Article Share on Facebook Share on Reddit Share on StumbleUpon

Markets in Olympia are all the rage right now. There is the weekend flea market by the Farmer's Market, there is the Westside Market, there is the recent opening of The Eagle's Club E-market. Enter Make Olympia, an outdoor seasonal flea market held at the newly vamped Artesian Well. This Saturday marks the opening of the season which runs the first and third Saturdays through September. This is Make Olympia's second summer of markets. Last year the event took place on Washington Street. This year, the event should be easier in the new park-like setting of the Artesian Well, as no streets need to be shut down. "We are thrilled to be moving to the Artesian well parking lot and hope the public is too," says Tina Olson, coordinator for the market. "We are trying to develop a lively place for people to gather, have fun and support small, local artists, crafters and entrepreneurs," she says. There is no re-selling at this market, so expect a wide variety of handmade goods from woodworkers, jewelry makers, bakers, up-cycled items, and a few services like chiropractic adjustments. "We are going for a little funkier, more indie vibe," says Olson. 11 a.m. -5 p.m., 4th Ave and Adams St. Downtown Olympia.
