Grownups can't go trick or treating. I've tried. Mostly, it's a good way to celebrate Halloween by getting a lot of awkward looks. A lot.

Instead, join in a local community event or party. With several to choose from in Tacoma and Olympia, kids won't be the only ones having a spooky good time.

Halloween Party at New Frontier Lounge

New Frontier Lounge at 301 E. 25th Street, Tacoma, will have a 21+ Halloween party on Oct. 26, starting at 8 p.m. Three live bands will keep the evening alive - the Dignataries, Splendid Vengeance and Tacoma's KISS tribute band, Dr. Love. Make sure to dress up so you can compete in the costume contest for prizes. The party is 21+ only and there's a $5 cover charge.

Electric Ghost Riot

The first Electric Ghost Riot is set to take place at Temple Theatre at 47 Temple Avenue in Tacoma. Another 21+ party, this is the place to be if you want to dance the night away. Entertainment will feature Sound Remedy, Cry World and Emerald City Mobile Disco. Come in costume! Tickets range from $15 to $40.

And remember to DRESS UP!

Masa

Masa is hosting its annual Halloween Bash. Two DJs will keep the top 40 and Latin dance music strong, starting at 10 p.m. As with any Halloween party worth its pumpkins, there will be a costume contest, but this one is unique. It has a theme! Dress as a superhero and be creative, create your own superhero, even! Prizes include a $200 X Group Restaurants gift card and Seahawks tickets.

Follow the White Rabbit October ART BUS Tour

Parties not your thing? No worries. Tacoma has got an artsy Halloween treat for you. This month, the ART BUS is doing something a little different - an Alice in Wonderland theme. The tour guide will be dressed as the White Rabbit and riders will get their own set of bunny ears, too. Of course, you'll also stop into some art exhibits for Third Thursday, too. Tickets are $10 regular/$20 VIP. You don't even have to wear a costume, but expect lots of peer pressure to wear the bunny ears.

The Haunted Westwater on the Hill Halloween Bash

If you want to get crazy and not have to worry about driving home, a party at a hotel might be the best way to go. The Red Lion Hotel at 2300 Evergreen Park Drive in Olympia is hosting a 21+ party on Oct. 27, starting at 7 p.m. There will be live music and dancing, and a $1,000 prize for the best costume! Call the hotel for tickets or ask about room package deals to stay the night.

Day of the Dead Masquerade Party

This all-ages masquerade celebrates Latin culture and the Day of the Dead at Eagles Ballroom in Olympia, on Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. Expect live music and dancing, sugar skulls and other traditional Day of the Dead features such as altars to the dead. Tickets are $40 for regular admission, $75 for couples and $25 for students with ID and you can buy tickets are the door or via Brown Paper Tickets.
