Thursday, June 19: Tacoma Post Office Building Art Walk

Tacoma Post Office

By John Kephart on June 16, 2014

The unofficial creed of the United States Postal Service, inscribed on the James Farly Post Office in New York City, reads, "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds." If the Tacoma Postal Service had had an unofficial creed during the '70s/early '80s - around the time I started to get to know the city as a child - the motto on the A Street Post Office building would've been, "Neither snow nor rain nor hail of gunfire nor the Tacoma Aroma stays these couriers. ..."  That post office departed long ago, of course, though the building remained, along with the problem of what to do with it. Luckily, Spaceworks Tacoma stepped in, and Thursday we see the results with the Tacoma Post Office Building Art Walk. The event celebrates the creative activation of the location with a "happy hour" (with music by DJ Mr. Melanin) followed by a multi-media art exhibition by Jeremy Gregory, Geoff Weeg and Kris Crews; an exhibition memorializing the Luzon Building; installations by Jennifer Chushcoff and Erin Dengerink; open artist studio tours; a short film; and a performance by DASH. Expect this delivery of art and fun to be right on time.

TACOMA POST OFFICE BUILDING ART WALK, 5-9 p.m., Tacoma Post Office, 1102 A Street, Tacoma, $5 suggested donation for happy hour, SpaceworksTacoma.com
