The music typically coming out of Denmark leans toward art punk, power electronics and cold synth pop. Jessica Lynne, who grew up 60 km south of Copenhagen, sings country music. Country Music Television had an effect, as did rural life, with cows outside the church windows. Whatever, Lynne relocated to the Pacific Northwest to be with family, and has struck up a relationship with Maurice the Fish Records. I found her Spiritual Cowgirl release on Spotify to be lyrically rich and melodically pleasing. While there are pop country confections aplenty, "Wheels" has a bit of rebel in it. Next up, Calling Me Home dropped Feb. 24 — a love letter to the Northwest — and a March 5 show at Jazzbones. "She's a hard working musician," says Raymond Hayden, owner of Maurice the Fish Records. "When doors didn't open, she continued to knock. Within three years of leaving Denmark, she forged a partnership with London Bridge Studios in Seattle, booked a huge headline show July 4 in Oregon and has Carol Tingstad as her manager. She's inspirational."
