Washington state has a pedigree of comic-book artists to make any bullpen on any coast nervous. And it's certainly more than enough to justify the geek-chic culture. Comic book artist/writer Jim Woodring, who resides in Seattle, has made a name in the comic book world. He has penned the surreal works The Frank Book, Congress Of The Animals, Weathercraft, and his most recent, Fran. He also had runs as writer on Dark Horse's Aliens and Jabba The Hutt comics series. Woodring has received the Eisner, Harvey, and Inkpot awards, and in 2010 was the recipient of The Stranger's Genius Of Literature Award. Saturday, Woodring will appear at the Danger Room where he'll be interviewed, sign copies of his books and chat with fans. He'll grab a bite of dinner, and then hit the Olympia Timberland Regional Library for a live drawing demonstration using his invention Nibbus Maximus, a 7-foot-long ink-nib pen, followed by a Q&A session and book signing. After the library, Woodring will open a restaurant with the Naccarato brothers, take over as coach of the Washington Huskies football team and fix HealthCare.gov.
