Saturday, Nov. 24: Underground Tacoma Flashlight Tour

Downtown Tacoma

By Volcano Staff on November 17, 2012

You know you'll want to go underground after Thanksgiving. Last year's Turkey Day still haunts. Uncle Smitty transporting a live turkey on his Harley so Cousin Red and him could shoot it in the backyard. Of course it wasn't long before the police arrived doling out tickets for discharging firearms, drunkenness animal cruelty and who knows what else. And if all this wasn't enough, somehow in all the confusion the dog caught and ate the turkey.

The opportunity to head underground actually exists. Tacoma's Art Bus presents an Underground Tacoma Flashlight Tour Saturday. And by underground the organization means descending stairs in search of Tacoma's infamous Chinese Tunnels, the basement housing the banished Never Never Land characters of Point Defiance Park, the bottom floors of Old City Hall, gaps underneath the streets and other such places.

Walking tour participants will be asked to wear a hard hat, sign a release of liability, wear a freakin' coat and promise they're cool with uneven surfaces, low ceilings and cobwebs.
