Recently SP, aka Slo Poke, thought up an idea for younger artists who are struggling to get shows. He calls it the "We Out Here Hip-Hop Showcase." Not only do these young-and-hungry rappers get a stage and crowd to be in front of, but SP also gives them the opportunity to make money. There has been a little controversy surrounding these events with some declaring SP is just using these artists to make money himself, but the reality is he is giving performers paid opportunities to showcase their talents where they otherwise would not be able to. Recently SP's showcases have moved to the Eagles Hall in downtown Olympia, an all-ages venue. Having an all-ages venue for hip-hop is something Olympia has sorely lacked. You can catch the next event on Saturday, April 9, and see for yourself how SP is building a better hip-hop scene for the future.
