DIVE IN: 2121 Tavern

There’s huge dive bar territory over in the Parkland/Spanaway area that I have yet to uncover, and man, it’s a freakin’ gold mine up in that ’hood. It literally gets my heart racing as I think of the trashy possibilities that lie upon Pacific Highway and its surrounding streets.

Tricia Berglund

The Muse, an all-ages venue in Tacoma’s Sixth Avenue District, hosts a lineup of talent from bluegrass musicians to poets to acoustic indie and rock performers.  There’s a minimal cover charge and two free open mic nights a week.  Bandito Betty and I stopped in for a freshly made (delicious)

Kyoto Japanese Restaurant

For some traditional, real-feel Japanese-style dining, one of my favorite places is Kyoto Japanese Restaurant on South Tacoma Way in Lakewood.  Not only does Kyoto serve some damn extraordinary sushi and sashimi, but also the atmosphere is incredible.  My friends and I were lucky enough to snag one of the

Sharkey's Pub

Admittedly I’ve fallen in love with Sumner. Yeah, it has cute little shops and all, but it’s the dive bars that really get me going. Something about Sumner makes me feel like I’m far enough away from home to not know anyone, yet close enough to make it home on

In Between Place

For some time now In Between Place has successfully catered to the young imagination of kids from the ages of preschool to pre-teen. Somewhere in there, my maturity level fits in perfectly. It was on their porcelain throne that my mind wandered into a magical, fairytale place leading me toward

Riverside Pub and Eatery

Opportunity was knockin’ on our dive bar luvin’ door last week as the gang and I tooled around Sumner, drinking to our heart’s content. Directly across the street from Captain Jack’s and in the same parking lot as The Old Cannery, convenience was key as we walked across the way

McCann Motors

Now is the perfect time to buy a car. The specials and rebates on any and all vehicles are fantastic. But with the way the economy is headed (or has already become), is it really the perfect time? It’s a catch 22 that manager Jim Walker and sales executive Harvey

Captain Jack's

Last week my crew and I overtook Captain Jack’s out in Sumner. That place is a true, Grade-A dive bar. Jell-O shots, cold domestics on tap, and hodgepodge décor — need I say more? We were in heaven. Along with the good times, great service, and cold beer came the

Sgt. Elbow to the Face

Three words for you: blood, bitches and beer. No, I’m not talking about my last evening out with The KAke, I’m talking about Ft. Lewis’ newest weapon of choice — the Fort Lewis Rollergirls. We’ve got a new roller-kid in town, and she’s not about to skate in quietly. The league

Captain Jack’s Bar & Grill

It was frickin’ rainy as all get out, and I was sick to death of furniture shopping at The Old Cannery in Sumner. How many cheap pine coffee tables is this girl expected to gawk at it one afternoon? My limit was 26 cheap pine coffee tables, and I was
