Megs and Mo

Comfortable, brand name resale clothes in every room

Personal style, perseverance and vision. These three concepts are what has allowed owner Lisa Murphy to take a typical North End home in the Proctor District and transform it into Megs and Mo, the new comfortable, brand name women’s resale clothing store.

Murphy incorporates the entire house, too. Each room has a different theme — there’s the jean room (an instant fav), the hot mom room (stocked with hip professional attire), and the T-shirt room (comfy, casual). Gorgeous handmade headbands that incorporate deconstructed vintage jewelry, cutesy bottle cap pendant necklaces, pop notebooks and more kitsch items are featured prominently upon entry to the shop. In the main front room — athletic wear, light weight scarves perfect for spring, hats and shoes. The home’s kitchen has been redone into dressing rooms with deep luxurious cream carpet and beautiful lighting.

Open for just less than two months, Megs and Mo is airy, clean and uncluttered. This can be attributed to Murphy’s decisive eye in choosing what’s right for her upscale resale shop and clientele.

“It’s been great so far,” Murphy explains. “I’ve had people bring stuff by just about every day, and I let them know what I can and can’t sell, and they’ve been pretty understanding.”

Whatever Murphy doesn’t think she can sell, she donates to Goodwill.

Being choosey is what has already set Megs and Mo apart from other thrift stores. There’s no flipping through racks of stained clothes here. Zippers will work, buttons will button and hems will be intact. Only nearly new items make it to the sales floor, and prices can run from $3 to $100.

Murphy has plans to open a men’s and boys’ department on the second floor later this year.
