In The Bag: Still time to grab discounted holiday decorations

Since opening almost two and a half years ago, Dwell shop owners Shelly Dally and April Donato are still providing interesting home décor, unique gifts and personal indulgence items. Right down to display racks that may have been rescued from an attic to brand new ones that could be art themselves, it’s obvious that as much thought has been put into the shop’s visual appeal as to what items Dally and Donato have selected to carry. Dally grins when asked how having the shop is and if they do it all themselves. “It’s great. I love shopping for the shop,” says Dally.

Lollia, a company out of Denver, Colo., of all places, offers decadent lotion, parfum, bubble bath, soaps, and dusting powder for extremely reasonable prices ($7-$24). Pick up a bright, spring green doormat blaring the French word for welcome (bienvenue), deliciously luxurious and long-burning Voluspa candles, and gorgeous stationery you’re loath to write on.

The real to-do about Dwell is its fabric wall. It’s eye-catching bringing to mind Lilly Pulitzer and her groundbreaking fabric designs from in the early 1960s. Pulitzer and Key West Fabrics created flirty images of lime green fronds, magenta flower petals and sun-struck yellow swirls resting on creamy backgrounds. Hot pink petals nestled up against turquoise waves packed in tightly by emerald fleur de lis. Royal purple monkeys played with chartreuse bells and ivory mountain peaks held court together long before these wild patterns and colorful combinations were resurrected in recent years.

Just as Lilly used these to divert the eye from what may have been spilled on the garment during a day’s work of caring for one’s household, Dwell’s fabrics have dual useful and beautiful purpose as well. Pick a fabric, decide what you want made out of it, and Shelly Dally can create it for you or you can take the fabric and craft it yourself. Dwell has books just brimming with ideas.

Pssst. … Take advantage of Dwell’s 50-60 percent off sparkly holiday decorations, artsy cards, ornaments and more.
