This week I need to offer you some news that’s so bittersweet.

In case you haven’t heard, we’ll soon be losing the legendary Brian Redman and his beautiful and lovely wifey, Dana, as they move to San Diego, Calif.

I met Redman after he had completed one of his first shifts at Doyle’s Public House, and mostly what I can remember about that initial conversation is that it was rapid-fire fun, and I knew that cat would be my friend till the end.

I had no idea then about his incredible and impressive background in music, but  people quickly let me know about his 3 Inches of Blood fame, amongst other awesome bands.
All of that aside, Brian is simply an amazing friend, and a true T-Town treasure that I’m dearly going to miss.

Many might know him via his quick wit and charm through bartending at Doyle’s Public House, but when you look a little deeper, you’ll find a dude who’s been so committed to the Tacoma music scene. He hooks up shows at Doyle’s, supports bands on his own, and brags about many of the local musicians that he admires.

Dana is a musical masterpiece in and of herself. It’s been such a joy to watch her DJ and spin mad cuts while Brian looks on with a smile.

I also think it’s wicked fun that a man with such death-metal dedication also loves Beyonce without apology.

Whenever Brian plays with his current band, the Dirty Knockers, all kinds of local musicians show up to catch the show because we all know what an explicit treat it is to see Redman play as he completely fucks the frets.

Speaking of, this Saturday is your last chance to catch the Dirty Knockers. Their final performance is at 9 p.m. Saturday at Doyle’s Public House with Cute Band Alert and special guests. This show is a must-see-and-do because I’m sure the place will be oozing with Tacoma music royalty as we send this band off in style.

Back to that man himself, I’d just like to publicly and selfishly say how very sad I am to see him go. This is such a loss for the family of Doyle’s employees, the Tacoma music scene, and the city as a whole.

But as time marches on, I know the friendship that’s formed will always be there, and I’m excited about this transition in Brian and Dana’s world.

Brian’s last day at Doyle’s Public House will be Friday, Feb. 13, which is the ideal day for us to ascend upon this bar and thank this rock star for all of the good times.

I wish you the very best of luck, Dana and Brian, and I love and I’ll miss you both.
