Where to hang the next two days

There are all kinds of holidays that need to be celebrated, but when you’re a nightlife ambassador like me, there are specific holidays that rule more than the rest.

What people who live above ground might not understand is that one of the most underrated party days throughout the year is the day before Thanksgiving.

On this very day, people can’t wait to rid themselves of their short work week (or they’ve taken the entire week off), and all of the friends who live in other places now start to roll in to visit their family and loved ones.

One specific thing unites most of the United States on days like today: Almost everyone has Thanksgiving off from work.

Thanksgiving itself doesn’t require many demands other than eating far too much food, watching copious amounts of football and doing your best to appreciate or put up with your family members.

Since Thanksgiving is so low maintenance, the nightlife warrior tends to come out in one and all of us.

This year in particular, I’m torn between two unique parties, and I might have to hit up both.

The Parkway’s Night Before Thanksgiving bash is always a must-see and do.  Why would you go into Thanksgiving dead sober when you can enjoy the microbrew delicacies that come from this hoppy haven? Large crowds amass for this fest with discounts and prizes, so get there early, and feel free to succumb to the force that is the Randall.

Also, a sure hit is the Horrible Holiday Sweater party at Doyle’s Public House tonight. That’s right, all you have to do is don any of those terrible sweaters that your grandmother swore you’d look excellent in. Those who aren’t in sweaters will obviously be welcome, but be aware that people go all out to win, especially with the prizes at stake for horrible sweaters that would usually be handed out for Knowledge Night.

As for the big Thanksgiving Day itself, if you decide at the last minute that you’d like to hit up a restaurant for the feast, I’d recommend calling ahead to the Pacific Grill or Quickie Too. Local blogger Tacoma Mama is also offering a list of restaurants serving dinner on Thanksgiving, which is available at www.tacomamama.com/thanksgiving/.

I also know that several of you will be itching to rid yourself of the family digs and sink into a night of fun. That’s why you’ll want to consider heading to any or all of these places that I know will be open on Thanksgiving night (with a guarantee of a good time): Magoo’s, The Red Hot, The Parkway, The Top of Tacoma and Doyle’s Public House.

Whatever tickles your fancy tonight or tomorrow, I hope this Thanksgiving weekend is the best one ever for you and yours.

Gobble, gobble.
