Chorizo and clams

Asado unleashes its fall menu

For the first time in the successful three-year history of this restaurant — that’s one of, if not the best in Tacoma — Asado came through last week and delivered a new menu that I’m sure will satisfy.

What they’ve done is maintain so many of your near and dear favorite meals and treats, including ceviche, empanadas, the incredible Asado burger, Lomillio (hanger steak), Espalda Asado (marinated flat iron steak), gnocci and many others.

But what they added is a mix of items that were either high-demand specials or simply items that they want to tantalize your palate with.

Asado rolls out new menu

Also, rather than simply running specials for just one night, Asado will roll with them throughout the week. I think that’s smart for this restaurant where so many patrons just order straight from the specials, only to have them disappear for however long. The idea is that if you enjoyed the special, you can return to enjoy it again, or introduce your family and friends to it.

As for the new menu, I’ll admit that I have yet to try any of these items, but after frequenting this restaurant for the last three years without one single disappointment of any sort, I’d be willing to bet that these new items will delight your taste sensations.

And as always, I simply want you to be in the know about what’s going on in the dining and nightlife scene in our great city.

Thus, here’s a sneak peak on the new eats:

  • Chorizo and clams — salsa, shallots, garlic, white wine, grilled potato bread, $14

  • Calamari frito — thinly sliced calamari steak, seasoned Parmesan panko breading, yellow bell pepper aioli and cilantro jalapeno aoli, $9

  • Serrano wrapped prawns — mixed greens, salsa, cumin honey sauce, $12

  • Queso frito — skillet baked cheese with molido, salsa, cimichurri, breaded provolone, drunken goat, bleu cheese, $10

  • Plato de queso y anti pasto — grilled potato bread, assorted salamis, assorted cheeses, caperberries, stuffed pepadews, $16.

  • Porterhouse con mariscos — grilled 20-ounce Porterhouse steak, choice of prawn skewer or scallop skewer, $59

  • Ensalada parrilla – mixed green salad served with Chipotle lime vinaigrette and choice of two skewers: Steak, pollo, prawns or scallops, $24

  • Bucatini Y camarones – Bucatini pasta, rock schrimp, garlic, shallots, cheery tomatoes, roasted tomato caper sauce, $19.

  • Skilled vegetarianas – grilled purple potatoes, eggplant, zucchini, breaded provolone, molido, topped with a macadamia nut crust baked in a skillet with asparagus, $18.

While enjoying a glass of wine at Asado last weekend I was sure to make a mental note of the raised eyebrows, “mmmmms” and plate sharing that was going down there. That’s a good sign that you should try this new menu on for size soon.
