It should come as no surprise to you wonderful readers that one of the things I’m passionate about in life is small, locally-owned businesses.

And I love that they’re all over the place here in Tacoma.

We have so many that they’re even neatly assembled as business districts with names that you all should know, including: Lincoln, Fern Hill, Proctor, Dome, McKinley, Sixth Avenue, South Tacoma and Old Town.

Within most any given month, these business districts host all kinds of events or festivals to get more feet on their streets and to get the word out about the amenities within each.

In my humble opinion, the events that they throw don’t get nearly enough press or attention in this city, and they’re such a major part of the quality of life that we experience living here.
That’s why the Stadium Art and Wine Walk is this week’s Scene of the Crime.

If you ask me, the Stadium Business District is the center of the universe, at least as far as Tacoma is concerned. It contains most of the essential community services that you need within walking distance of the cool apartments, condos and homes there, with a grocery store, a bank, a tailor, a drug store, hair salons, coffee shops and eateries. I love that it’s adjacent to Wright Park and that it’s in the middle of fun in all directions between downtown, Sixth Avenue and the waterfront.

If you’ve just driven through Stadium, Saturday, June 7 will be the day for you to ditch your car and experience this area by foot.

The Stadium Art and Wine Walk will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. June 7 throughout the district. Tickets are $25, and that money will go to two very worthy causes: the Historic Stadium Business District and Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital.

This event will feature local artists, original artwork, Washington wines, tasty hors d’oeuvres and desserts and music at select locations.

I’ll also be completely transparent, I’m passionate about most things that involve wine.

The host locations for this event include the following awesome businesses in Stadium: Angelo Mendi boutique salon, Cally Lily Designs, Class Act Boutique, Dame Lola, Healing Garden Tea Room, King’s Books, Metro Hair, My Petit Pea, Open Arts Studio, Tacoma Wine Merchants, and a very near and dear personal favorite of mine: Ranko’s Pharmacy.

After the wine walk, attendees are encouraged to check out the scene at Stadium locations such as The Hub, El Guadalajara, Doyle’s Public House, The Harvester and the Hob Nob.
So, Stadium has got you covered for June 7, but even better, these locally-owned businesses can keep you busy and are ready to serve year-round.

Enjoy!
