V-day the cool way

Equilibrium presents a SinSational Valentine’s Day party.

How should you spend your Valentine’s Day?

Option 1: Sitting in a romantic bistro sipping champagne and eating overpriced luxurious food with your loved one.

Option 2: Living it up at the SinSational Valentine’s Day event in Tacoma.

If you haven’t heard yet, then you’re not a Tacoma blogger. The women who brought you the Eyefull and Soiree parties are doing it again — creating another lavish party for Tacoma artists and art supporters/appreciators.

This time around it’s a scaled-down event featuring fashion, art and music on the day of love.

“It’s going to definitely be a smaller event, more intimate,” says Mandi Webster-Martin, a member of the group, Equilibrium, which is organizing the event. Equilibrium is a group of female artists and entrepreneurs dedicated to promoting women’s art in Tacoma.

Art, of course, will be a big part of the evening as it’s the driving force behind these events.

“It’s all about supporting women artists while having a good time,” Webster-Martin says.

SinSational will feature two-dimensional pieces from half a dozen local artists. If you prefer live performance art, the Valentine’s Day party won’t disappoint with everything from drag queens to belly dancers to fire dancers. (Of course, the latter will perform outside the venue during the event’s intermission at around 8:30 p.m.) The emcee for the night will be Alex Tapia.

“We’re going to have lots of munchies,” Webster-Martin promises. Food is complimentary; however, beverages including alcohol-infused tea are not.

If you want to remember the evening forever, stop by the photo booth. Stylists from Embellish Multispace Salon will be embellishing people who want their picture taken.

A fashion show will also be part of the festivities featuring the work of Lisa Fruichantie.

It was actually Fruichantie’s idea to do something fun and sensational on Valentine’s Day.

It’s $10 to get in for singles and $14 for couples. Webster-Martin hopes enough money is made to cover the cost of the party with a little left over to start planning for the next one, which she expects to be this summer.

SinSational Valentine’s Day takes place at an undisclosed location. Only those who RSVP will know the venue. So if you want to know, you have to commit to attending and send an e-mail to SinSationalTacoma@gmail.com.

“It’s going to be interesting to see how it turns out,” Webster-Martin said. “We’re encouraging people to dress up, come and have fun.”
