Discount services offered by students at The Salon Professional Academy in Tacoma

By Jennifer Johnson on January 17, 2008

Tucked back next to Chevy’s Restaurant off 38th Street in Tacoma, The Salon Professional Academy of Tacoma waits. It waits for you to lift up those limp locks, look at your splintered ends and let out that sigh. You know, the one that says, “All right, I know I need my hair cut.”

Having opened in 2006, the salon is a teaching school where students perform all of the services with an instructor looking over their shoulder.

“Students are always supervised. Services may take a bit longer, but the price is less, so it’s good for people,” co-owner and administrator Karen Shea reassures.

The Academy uses Redken hair products exclusively in the services for men and women. A soothing treatment room for facials, thermal body wraps and hand and foot treatments sits removed from the main teaching floor where hip young male and female students bustle around exuding a general air of easy giddiness.

Services range literally from head to toe. Starting with la cabeza, the academy offer cuts, colors, trims, blow-outs, wash and styles, updos, highlights, and perms. For la cara, there are waxing and facials, and they’ll even help you with your makeup for special occasions. And not to be forgotten are the manos and pies (hands and feet); manicures, pedicures, and paraffin wax dip for hands (leaves skin super soft and silky) are offered.

Since it’s a school, services start at less than $5. For the budget minded and financially frugal, this is the spot.
