I’ve officially fallen off the MySpace bandwagon. In the beginning, I openly mocked the social Web site declaring just how stupid I thought it was to spend time growing your list of Internet “friends.” Then, like most people who initially fought the craze, I gave in. Before long I was uploading photos and posting MySpace bulletins like everyone else. I was happy in my hypocrisy.



Recently though, I’ve lost interest. I haven’t updated my profile in ages, and now I use MySpace mainly for contacting bands.



Out of curiosity I took a peak at my MySpace profile for the first time in a long time yesterday. I realized I’ve had I Defy’s “I Need a Beer” video posted for months. I love I Defy like any red blooded (albeit alcohol thinned) Tacoman, but wondered if, maybe, it was time for a change.

Then I checked out I Defy’s profile. The band will play Hell’s Kitchen as part of Customer Appreciation Night Wednesday, Dec. 26 along with Neutralboy, SOK and the Faggots, Three Legged Dog and Milhous. Then on Friday, Dec. 28, I Defy will play Hell’s Kitchen once again, this time an early all-ages show starting at 5 p.m. I checked up on McKibbin and Co. via the Internet and was shocked to see not only am I one of the band’s top 24 friends (hell yeah!), but there’s a link to an article of mine posted on their MySpace page. I guess, without knowing it, I’ve been scratching I Defy’s back and they’ve been scratching mine.

I Defy will play Hell’s Kitchen twice in the coming week. I wouldn’t expect the band to break musical ground, or re-invent the rock and roll wheel, but I would expect a firm showing from the alcohol loving throngs that make up Grit City’s punk rock heart. And I’d expect a damn entertaining show because of it.
