I spied the “LA Fitness” sign on the fence surrounding the razed building that was Gottschalks. While it makes me sad to see old buildings felled because of the history they represent, I have to say my heart didn’t exactly break to see that particular piece of architecture go. Still, I found it curious to see that a gym will be placing itself right next to another fitness facility — the Morgan Family YMCA.



Ironically, I was just driving home from visiting the Y when I noted the sign and had to call to get more information about the fitness club.



The new building is set to be completed around springtime, and will be a newer, bigger, better version of the facility formerly known as Pure Fitness, currently located off Mildred Street.



The new facility will include a sauna, spa, basketball courts, as well as weights and classes; the mostly helpful guy on the phone told me all this information freely, but when I asked about the gym’s pricing, he told me to hold for a sales professional.



I quickly demurred a “never mind,” not wanting to hear the pitch.
