Zumba and MLKBallet

Exercise your body while tasting culture

The YMCA of Tacoma/Pierce County offers Zumba classes at all its branches. The aerobics class serves up dance with a generous topping of salsa, adding in merengue, cumbia, calypso, and reggaeton. Class originator Beto Perez, choreographer for the likes of Shakira, created the class to combine fun moves that maximize calorie burning and body sculpting in a vibrant atmosphere with music that compels you to shake that thing.

YMCA membership is required to take the classes; contact the YMCA Morgan Family Branch at 1002 South Pearl St. 253.564.9622 or Tacoma Center Branch at 1144 Market St 253.597.6444 for schedules and membership info, or go to www.tacomaymca.org for additional location information.

Wine and cheese more your speed? Fitness with a French accent can be yours at MLKBallet, offering teen and adult ballet classes beginning Sept. 18. The Teen/Adult Ballet Open classes will run Monday nights from 7:15 to 8:30, while those individuals who always wanted to plie, arabesque and pirouette in tights and slippers (but never did) can try out the Adult Beginning Ballet Open class on Tuesday nights from 7:15 to 8:30.

Classes will be held at the Urban Grace Church 902 Market St, downtown; register on the first night of class, or email info@mlkballet.org for more information.
