Taking the Place of a Supernatural Disaster

Not a musical disaster

Taking the Place of a Supernatural Disaster is a three-piece band consisting of Tori Amos-styled pianist Misty Reynolds (the main songwriter and lead vocalist), her hubby, Larry Reynolds Jr. on drums and Lucas Swick and his synthetic orchestra. Swick adds an unexpected electronic twist to the mix giving the band a fresh sound — simultaneously melodic and supernatural.

“We also often get described as ‘theatrical’ or ‘like music from a movie,” explains Larry Reynolds. “One person recently described us as this army that she wanted to join, to fight along side.”

Whoa.

“We are Taking the Place of a Supernatural Disaster because we’ve come to the realization that we are the only ones who can take that place,” Misty Reynolds explains the band’s name. “God used to be the one to blame for locusts, hurricanes, volcanoes and whatnot. Then we realized that we made God up, so it’s us. Now we make our own disasters such as global warming, nuclear war and the like.”

Heavy.

While this is the band’s first venture up from their hometown of Portland, Larry Reynolds recalls jamming in Olympia with some friends from Evergreen.

“I have this one very fond memory of beating on an old broken piano in the middle of downtown with Jeff Fuccillo. I think it was in front of the Capital Theater.”

Nice.
